Dewi Sri
In Panggungharjo, Yogyakarta, there is a mural with Dewi Sri, the goddess of rice and fertility of the land, confronting greed monsters and corruption, with the message: “Air Sumber kehidupan, bukan untuk kerakusan” (Water is the source of life, not greed). Inspired by this mural, a mechanical tower transforms Dewi Sri to a conceptual protector of the urban water cycle. She assists with flood mitigation throughout Jakarta, utilizing a water capture and an aquifer recharge system. Her form is both outlandishly exaggerated and symbolic, serving as a deliberate architectural provocation arguing that urban crises demand not just solutions, but radical re-imaginings.
