Allihies Sanctuary
Allihies Sanctuary choreographs a spatial journey through the five stages of the mining life cycle—exploration, discovery, development, production, and reclamation—translating an extractive process into a contemplative architectural experience. Building form, material transitions, and calibrated light guide visitors sequentially through each phase, shifting from compression to release, darkness to illumination, and rough to refined surfaces. Rather than narrating mining as a linear industrial act, the sanctuary reframes it as a cyclical condition, allowing visitors to physically and emotionally register transformation, labor, and recovery. Architecture becomes both mediator and memorial, transforming a history of extraction into a slow, reflective passage toward renewal.
